ABOUT ME
Hi, I’m Shannon
I am a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor (MNCPS Accred.) in the respected modality of Transactional Analysis.
Alongside this role, I am also Lead Practitioner for a charity named As You Are, based in Southwick and volunteer for the BBC Children in Need on the South East Advisory Committee.
I have worked for over a decade in supporting people to achieve positive change & growth in their life. In my professional experience I have facilitated successful outcomes in people experiencing mental distress across a range of issues including neurodivergence, self-harm, risky behaviours, difficulties in relationships, severe depression, stress, trauma & anxiety.
Each person’s therapy journey will be as unique as they are – I will use my experience, compassion, warmth and creativity to support you wherever you are at now.
FAQs

It is a form of therapy which helps you to understand yourself, and look at all the different factors in your world which might be affecting how you are thinking, feeling and behaving.
I work actively, together with you, so we have a shared understanding of what you want to gain from therapy, we call this our contract.
In Transactional Analysis we work to three core ideas:
People are OK - this means that I will treat you with respect and compassion, at all times; even when it may be hard for you to find this within yourself.
People can Think - this means that we work together, as partners - your voice will be heard and valued in the space we share.
People can Change - this means that I see therapy as a change process - we are not fixed or stuck, even if it may feel like it sometimes. I will support you to achieve the growth and change you are looking for.

A warm welcome! We will talk at a mutually convenient time and this initial consultation is for you to ask me any questions that are important for you to know before meeting me in person. I will also ask you a few questions about what you are looking for from therapy to check that I am the right counsellor for you at this time.

This is about us settling into the space together and really forming an idea of what it is you are looking for from me, as your therapist, and from therapy in general. I will ask you more questions than usual, to ensure I know enough about you to be able to work with you safely and ethically.

I offer a warm, open, creative and exploratory space.
I work integratively - meaning I adapt to the needs of each client I meet.
I work relationally - meaning that what emerges in the relationship between us is often a key part of the process of therapy.
We will work together to create a space which feels safe and secure to allow for the growth, support and challenge that is all part of counselling.

I have worked for several years with As You Are, a charity based in Southwick, during which I have worked extensively with teenagers young adults (18-25) & older adults (25+). Over this time I have provided hundreds of hours of counselling support (including a partnership with YMCA) & co-facilitated an Emotional Well-being Group. I am now Lead Practitioner for our Plumpton College Counselling Service - working in multi-agency partnership to support the people using our services.
Prior to this I was a Social Worker for 6 years, working in various teams including Youth Offending and Youth Support. I specialised in working with child sexual abuse and exploitation becoming Sexual Risk Lead for my team at the time.
What does this mean? I hope it reassures you, that you will be in competent, safe hands should we work together.
